Did you know… While our communications officer is asking you questions related to your call (what happened, descriptions of suspects and vehicles, direction of travel, and most importantly weapons related questions), another communications officer is dispatching officers to your location. There is no delay in response in you answering the call taker’s questions. Your answers can give key information to responding officers, especially the presence of any weapons and the type of weapons. When the call taker puts the call in the computer system, the radio dispatcher can instantly view and dispatch your call.

If you have a call for service that is not an emergency, you can reach us at 256-760-6610, 24/7/365 (it will be answered by a communications officer, no call menu). If you call 9-1-1, the 9-1-1 call taker should promptly transfer your call to us at Florence Police should you have a call for police service in the City of Florence. If you accidentally call 9-1-1, never hang up. Stay on the line and let the call taker know it was accidental.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Florence Police Communications. We hope we’ve provided some useful information to you.
Thanks again to all public safety telecommunicators for the service you provide to your responders, citizens, and visitors of your communities. You are a vital part of public safety.

Below is another piece of custom artwork in our Center. We recognize that not everyone can perform this job and we are appreciative to those who can and do. You are the first “first responder” and we thank you for taking the call.

Did you know… There are three communications officers assigned to each patrol shift, one supervisor for both the day shifts, one supervisor for both the night shifts, and two part time communications officers (one day, one night). This fosters a solid working relationship between patrol and communications. They work together regularly with the same team which enables the communications officers to know their shift and patrol supervisors – know their voices, their patrol zones, recognize distress in their tones of voice, and strengthen the working relationships. And, the patrol units know their comm officers. All of this even further promotes a positive, caring, trusting work culture. We are a family of blue with a touch of gold. We’ve got their 6, 24/7/365.
