REMINDER: MPD 3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off tomorrow!
Teams of police officers compete against each other with their best chili recipes. You are invited to be the judge to taste it and nominate the team you think has the best chili. It’s a family-fun event held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cathedral Square Downtown Mobile, 300 Conti Street.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate. Tickets are $5 per person and free for children under age 5. This MPD fundraiser event benefits the Mobile Police Foundation and Crime Prevention Unit.

MPD 3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off This Saturday!

The public is invited to taste the best chili in the city – cooked by Mobile police officers!

The Mobile Police Department third annual Chili Cook-Off is a family-fun event. It will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cathedral Square Downtown Mobile, 300 Conti Street. Teams of police officers will compete against each other with their best chili recipes.

Tickets are $5 per person, and free for children under age 5. Tickets can be purchased at police headquarters, 2460 Government Blvd, or at the Downtown Mobile Alliance, 261 Dauphin Street. For ticket information, call Lt. Kay Taylor, MPD Crime Prevention, at 251-454-2346 or 251-208-1924.

89-year-old John Higby’s Killer Located and Arrested

Over the course of the investigation, the Mobile Police Department identified and located the suspect responsible for the death of 89-year-old John Higby during an apparent robbery at the Dauphin Square Shopping Center parking lot, 3170 Dauphin Street. Higby’s murder occurred Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at approximately 12:50 p.m.

Greg O’Neal Hackett, 28, has been arrested. Hackett is charged with two counts of capital murder.
