Zaida asked for a veteran or a cop to help hang her flag. We sent both. Officer Rushing, a Marine veteran proudly helped with this task. 🇺🇸 https://t.co/vakbNDovkT

It has come to our attention that one of our dispatch telephone numbers is being spoofed to make scam related telephone calls. The telephone number, (209) 538-5712, is showing on the caller ID of the victim’s phone during an incoming call. When answered, the caller claims they are from the police department and state that the person called has missed a court date or something similar. This is a scam. Legitimate phone calls from our police department will come up on your caller ID as “Unknown Caller” or “Blocked Number”.

If you ever question the legitimacy of a phone call you receive from someone from the Ceres Police Department, do not hesitate to request that you call that person back at a known, published telephone number. These phone numbers can be found on the City of Ceres website at www.ci.ceres.ca.us

“Between the thin blue line and the thin red line lies the thinnest gold line. This gold line represents those who are rarely seen but mostly heard. The calm voice in the dark night. The golden glue that holds it all together. Dispatchers.”

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. We here at the Ceres Police Department have some of the most dedicated, hard working Dispatchers in the area. These men and women work long hours fielding calls from people who are often time in crisis. They are expected to be at their best when dealing with people who are at their worst.

We are very proud of our Dispatchers. They truly are the calm voice in the storm that guides us.

Tonight, our Dispatch center began fielding numerous calls related to a social media post which features a young man holding a rifle with the caption “F*** CHS I’m going out with a bang.” and “Don’t go to school tomorrow” One of our School Resource Officers recognized this post as being the same from an article he had seen earlier in the day. (that article is posted below) The original post is out of Clovis, New Mexico. Authorities there have investigated and made an arrest related to this post.

We have contacted the Clovis, New Mexico Police Department to confirm the post that is being circulated in our area is in fact the same post that they dealt with. It is.

We have been informed that the original post has since been altered and is being shared on social media to reference other schools. Again, we want parents to know that the Ceres Police Department has confirmed the original message came out of Clovis, New Mexico and an arrest has been made there. This post is not referring to any of our area schools.

We ask people to be cautious when sharing information online, which perpetuates social media rumors.

Contact: Sgt. G. Yotsuya (209) 538-5719

On March 3rd at approximately 45 mins after midnight, patrol officers responded to the Quick Stop located at 1301 E. Service. The clerk advised them that he had been on break and had the store locked up. He heard someone try to get in through the front door. When he got to the front door, no one was there. The clerk felt this was suspicious as customers usually wait for him to come to the door to unlock it.

In reviewing the surveillance video, it showed a black male adult wearing a dark colored hooded jacket with white stripes going down the sleeves and gray pants attempting to get into the business. When he was unsuccessful, he walked away.

The clerk stated that a male wearing the same clothing but with a white mask had attempted to come into the store the night before around the same time. The door to the store was locked at that time as well and the subject fled the area.

Officers decided to stay in the area to see if the suspect would return. Just under an hour later, a male matching the physical and clothing description from earlier was observed walking towards the front of the store. When Officers pulled into the parking lot, this male saw them and ran. After a short foot pursuit, the male was captured. He had dropped a handgun as he ran, which was recovered.

The suspect was identified as GATES, Davion 18 yrs. out of Ceres. Investigators have since linked GATES to several other armed robberies of convenience stores throughout Ceres. He has been charged with 3 counts of robbery and two counts of attempted robbery. Investigators are working diligently to see if he was involved in other robberies in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Julio Amador at (209) 538-5729.
