Beware of bunco scams!

If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. Here are some of the most common tricks – and the truth!

“This is a winning ticket, but I need money to claim it. If you help me with the upfront money, I’ll share the jackpot with you.” Truth is, once a ticket is bought, no money is EVER required to claim a prize.

“I can’t cash in my winning Lottery ticket because I’m not a U.S. citizen.” Truth is, you don’t have to be a U.S. citizen to claim a lottery prize.

“Let’s call the Lottery. They’ll tell us this is a winning ticket.”
Truth is Lottery officials do not confirm that a ticket is a winner over the phone. The person on the phone is part of the scam.

“We need to hurry! I need to get back to my family – it’s an emergency!” Truth is, the thieves are trying to rush you so you don’t have time to think it through.

The old saying still holds true, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” Don’t be a victim and don’t let anyone you know be a victim. When you hear one of these stories – get away, call the police, and give them a description. Help stop these criminals – before they strike again.

Today, Sergeant Maria Villegas graduated from the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute. This program is designed to stimulate personal growth, leadership, and ethical decision-making in California law enforcement front-line supervisors. It is held over an 8 month period and requires time, dedication and sacrifice. We are proud of you!
Congratulations on your accomplishment!

The department would like to recognize Detective David Van and Traffic Investigator Mario Flores who were recently promoted to the rank of Corporal.

David is an 8-year veteran of the department, having spent most of that time on patrol. Over the past year he has been assigned to the Gang Unit.

Mario has been with the department for 11-years and has worked in field operations as both a patrol officer and a motor officer. For the past 14-months he has been assigned as the department’s Traffic Investigator.

We want to congratulate David and Mario on their promotions.
