We are aware of a message that is being shared on social media regarding a threat at Central Union High School. Our officers have worked with school officials and have interviewed all parties involved.

At this time it appears there is no credible threat. We continue to be vigilant and thank our community members for bringing this to our attention. Rest assured we take these matters serious and will take all precautionary measures available to us.

Every year during the second week of April, the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community, are honored. This week-long event, initially set up in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in California, is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public. It is a week that should be set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication.

Thank you, again, for all the sacrifices you make to create a better and safer world for the public. Your commitment to your profession is appreciated by all of us at the El Centro Police Department and the citizens you serve.

Each one of us became peace officers to help and serve our communities. But due to proposed legislation in Sacramento, we’re concerned about the ability to do just that.
Earlier this week, Assemblymember Shirley Weber (D-San Diego) and Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) announced they would be introducing legislation that would raise the standard for legal review, in hindsight, of an officer’s decision to use force. We are concerned about the repercussions of this change for public safety.

If our officers cannot respond to life and death situations until backup arrives or are forced to employ a checklist during rapidly advancing and extraordinarily dangerous situations, ultimately everyone involved is placed at a higher risk. Regardless of any outcome, we will always be here for you, to help and to serve. Please leave your comments below and email and call these Assemblymembers to voice your opinion. Assemblymember Shirly Weber (916) 319-2079 / Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (916) 319-2007. #ServingOurCommunities

Thank you from your Police Department.
