Which ride would you choose? The choice should be easy. Planning ahead and making the decision to find an alternate choice for transportation will easily save you the $10,000 that the ride to jail will cost you. Please don’t drink and drive. MM

Today Officer Hoover had a scary run in with a wanted gang member during a pedestrian check on Lake Street. Florentino Flores told Officer Hoover that he was armed with a weapon, then tried to run from him. Officer Hoover quickly caught Florentino, who began to struggle. Officer Gonzales arrived and together they were able to place Florentino under arrest. It was at this point that they discovered a loaded handgun in Florentino’s jacket. Along with being a gang member Florentino is also a felon, further prohibiting him from possessing firearms. Unfortunately our officers face uncertain, tense situations like this one on a regular basis. But, we know it is an important part of reducing gang violence and keeping our community safe. JA

With the help of several citizens, the male in the video was identified. He turned the wallet, containing all of its contents, into McDonald’s after seeing himself on Facebook. The wallet was returned to the owner. Thank you for helping us with the identification and bringing a positive outcome to what was a terrible event for one citizen. AK3902

On 1/16/18 at approximately 0845 hours a theft occurred at the McDonald’s at 1406 E Yosemite Ave. Security camera footage captured a male taking a wallet which was left on the counter from a previous customer. The surveillance cameras captured some good images of the male’s face and the vehicle he left in. Although this may seem minor to some; this type of theft has the potential to lead to fraud related crimes. Many of our citizens are affected by theft and fraud related crimes daily. If you recognize the person, please contact us at (559) 675-4220 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP. You may remain anonymous. When we work together to solve crime, we create a community to be proud of. AK3902

Last night Officer Cortez conducted a traffic stop on N D St. and Green Way. The driver, Jose Guillen, was driving while unlicensed and he lied about his name. Officer Cortez located several bags of methamphetamine in Guillen’s possession. One of the bags of meth weighed an ounce, which is a significant amount. Officer Cortez determined Guillen was in possession of the illegal substance for the purposes of sales, which is a felony. Officer Cortez is one of the eleven officers recently hired, and just completed her first phase of training with Corporal Anaya. The citizens of Madera made her hiring possible by voting YES on Measure K. JC3509

Officer Dunn was patrolling in the area of Tozer Street and Raymond Road when a spotted Salvador Bobadilla pulling his horse trailer with a flat tire. Salvador was suspected of being under the influence. He failed a series field sobriety tests and his blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit. Mr. Bobadilla was unaware the tire was flat and his destination was still several miles away. JC3509
