There were three DUI arrests last night; Jose Luis Sanchez was observed driving poorly by Corporal Anaya and was arrested by Officer Gibbs for DUI. Sanchez is currently on probation for DUI and his driver’s license is suspended from a previous DUI offense. Officer Dunn handled a DUI investigation after he conducted an enforcement stop. Michael Boyles was driving over twice the legal limit and was arrested. Officer Gomez and FTO McAlister were dispatched to 9th St. and Gateway Drive regarding a stalled vehicle. They found Angel Flores passed out at the wheel, in the turn lane. Angel was driving with over three times the legal limit of .08 blood alcohol content in his system and his license was suspended from a previous DUI offense. As you can see, impaired driving continues to be an issue in our city. If you suspect someone is driving while under the influence, don’t hesitate to call. Two of the individuals are repeat offenders, which will cause their fines and punishment to increase substantially. With your assistance, we can continue to combat this issue in order to keep our community safe. JC3509

It is our desire to SMASH OUT child abuse! Please continue to support and be a voice for the littlest members of our community. Together we can make a difference. MM

Yesterday the City of Madera Police Department’s Traffic Division along with the California Department of Motor Vehicles Investigative Unit conducted a handicapped enforcement operation. The purpose of this enforcement was to enforce handicapped parking regulations and to ensure that those utilizing handicapped placards were authorized to use the placard.

The operation resulted in six individuals being cited for the improper use of a handicapped placard, and several citations for illegal parking in a handicapped stall.

Please be aware that handicapped parking stalls are reserved for individuals with a medical need to park close to a business. The abuse and/or misuse of handicapped placards and illegal parking in handicapped stalls is not acceptable and if seen by law enforcement will result in enforcement action being taken. #2722

Recently, the Madera Police Department has had an increase in calls regarding people operating motorized vehicles in the Fresno River. Though we understand that riding motorcycles and quads is a recreational activity that many families enjoy, it is illegal to do so in the City of Madera. In response to these complaints, officers will be patrolling these areas for violators and will be enforcing these laws. Those who are caught are subject to fines and may have their vehicles impounded. We at the Madera Police Department do enjoying seeing people having fun and enjoying the outdoors, but for the safety of the citizens and the community, we ask that you ride where it is appropriate.
