Late last night, the Milpitas Police Department received a few phone calls from concerned residents regarding a threatening social media picture depicting firearms and referencing “MHS.” We take all threats seriously, especially those involving our schools and investigated the social media posting.

We would like to inform you that there are NO threats towards Milpitas High School.

The social media posting originated in Virginia and was made in reference to a high school there.

Our investigation revealed, that the posting had already been investigated by law enforcement in Albemarle County, Virginia earlier in the day and was made in reference to Monticello High School NOT Milpitas High School. The Albemarle County Police Department identified the juvenile responsible for posting the picture on social media and detained them.

During our investigation, we found a news article which documented the incident and included a screenshot of the social media posting. That screenshot was the same as the one the Milpitas residents who contacted us referenced.

A copy of the Albemarle County Police Department’s Press Release is attached to this message.

We would like to thank everyone who contacted us last night regarding this matter.

The safety of our children and schools is a priority and any instances such as this are thoroughly investigated.
