Today we remember the life of fallen #SDPD Officer Edward Moore. EOW:01/15/1933. Officer Edward Moore was shot while arresting a robbery suspect. He had just gotten off duty and was still in uniform when he spotted the suspect. He patted him down and confiscated a .32 caliber handgun. As he was handcuffing the man, the suspect grabbed the gun and shot him in the chest several times. Patrolman Moore was able to chase the suspect for about a block before collapsing.

The suspect was arrested by other officers responding to the scene. Patrolman Moore was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries eight days later after contracting pneumonia.

Please take a moment to honor him and the ultimate sacrifice he made protecting the community he so proudly served. #NeverForget

Happy New Year and Happy #FeelGoodFriday. The best part of our job is the ability to help others! Here is a heartwarming thank you we received:

Dear SDPD,

On Saturday December 30th, my non-verbal, autistic 10-year son, Daryan ran off due to a momentary lapse in our home security protocol (a gandyman left a door open). After a panicked 5-10 minutes, we had to call 911 for the 3rd time in our life for Daryan! In five minutes, a SDPD helicopter started circling our house announcing his name & two squad cars showed up. Over 20-30 neighbors, friends, family & officers poured into the streets to look for him. Some drove around, some biked & some went door to door. As distraught & panicked as we all were, looking back, it was amazing to be immediately surrounded by such top class First Responders, neighbors, friends & family. After 30-45 minutes of the longest day of our lives, Daryan was heard laughing in joy in the neighbors yard (right across our street) while they were away. So we live to fight another day but we will not forget everyone that came to our aid, when we needed them! The only reason I capture these (difficult or intimate) moments on FB is to honor Daryan’s life, the good, the bad, all of it. He has a voice and I want people to hear it, even if it’s through us. Thank you SDPD! We love you! 🙏🙏🙏😍😍😍

Today we remember the life of fallen #SDPD Officer James P. Lewis. EOW:12/28/1970. Patrolman James Lewis was shot and killed while off duty when identified himself as a police officer. He and two other officers had gone to a bar when they noticed several individuals giving the doorman a hard time. Patrolman Lewis identified himself as an officer and escorted the men to their car to get identification. Instead, one of the men produced a handgun and shot Patrolmen Lewis. Although mortally wounded, he was able to return fire, striking the vehicle several times. The bullet holes in the car helped identify the suspects when the car was found several days later. The suspects were arrested and sentenced to life in prison.

Please take a moment to honor him and the ultimate sacrifice he made protecting the community he so proudly served. #NeverForget
