We received a phone call today from one of our residents in Rossmoor who said they received a phone call from someone identifying himself as a representative of the San Ramon Police Department and asked her for a monetary donation. When she explained that she lived in Walnut Creek, the man responded that the donation would go to all Police Departments, including Walnut Creek.

***THIS IS A SCAM***

Walnut Creek Police Department is not conducting any type of telephone call donation request. Do not provide any personal information to people over the phone.

We greatly appreciate the support you’re willing to provide our Police Department, and we definitely do not want you to become a victim of identity theft. This information has also been shared with the San Ramon Police Department.

Today, we remember the life and sacrifice of Galt Police K9 Officer Kevin Tonn. Officer Tonn was fatally shot on January 15, 2013 by a fleeing burglary suspect. He was only 35 years old.

Tonn started his law enforcement career as a Roseville Police Explorer in high school and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. Tonn was a firefighter in New York prior to becoming a Police Officer for the City of Galt. At the time of his death, he had served with the Galt Police Department for three and a half years. He served with his K9 partner Yaro, photographed with him below. Our thoughts remain with Tonn’s family, friends, and Galt Police Department family.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is celebrated on the third Monday in January of each year (near his January 15th birthday) to honor his legacy in battling for civil rights and ending inequality and segregation. King was an advocate of nonviolent protests and he became the youngest man to have be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 at the age of 35.
