On November 16, 2017, at 0643 hours, Officer Jeffrey LaRoche responded to a 911 call reporting a suicidal male in a home on Lakeside Drive. It was reported that the male had cut himself and was bleeding heavily. LaRoche arrived shortly after and was directed to the basement of the home. He found a male with a serious cut to his left arm slumped over on the floor. The male was bleeding profusely and was unconscious. The victim had used an electric saw to intentionally cut his arm. To stop the bleeding, LaRoche applied a tourniquet to the victim’s arm and the bleeding stopped. The victim was transported to a Hartford area hospital and survived. According to the emergency room physician, the victim had severed the artery in his left arm. Without the quick response and actions by Officer LaRoche, the victim would have likely died. Therefore, Officer Jeffrey LaRoche was awarded the Life Saving Commendation and named Employee of the Month for November 2017.
