WILMINGTON DEPARTMENT OF POLICE HONOR NATHAN SILPATH, 16.

At age 9, Nathan Silpath, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. That was in 2010. He faced three lapses since his initial diagnosis, which resulted in lung cancer and in December, 2017, leukemia.

The annual police and fire hockey game, which is played for the B+ Foundation, was played on January 6, 2018 and featured the Wilmington Department of Police and the Wilmington Fire Department. The annual event benefits the Andrew McDonough B+ (Be Positive) Foundation, which funds research for childhood cancer and provides financial assistance to families of kids who have cancer. Nathan was suppose to attend this event, but he was too weak.

The Wilmington Department of Police beat the Wilmington Fire Department with a final score of 7-3, and the Wilmington Department of Police brought the trophy back home where it belongs.

The day after the hockey event, January 7, 2018, members from the Wilmington Department of Police and Wilmington Fire Department responded to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital to present Nathan with a signed hockey stick and puck from the game.

Nathan loved police officers and firefighters.

Two days later, on January 9, 2018, Nathan lost his battle with cancer. He was 16-years-old.
