DBPD traffic homicide investigators have identified the woman killed Wednesday night when her car collided with a train as Linda Short, 73, of Berea, Ohio. Around 7:40 p.m., Short was driving her rental car eastbound on East Linton Boulevard approaching the Florida East Coast Railway train tracks. Short stopped for a red light on the railroad tracks. At the same time, a train was heading southbound toward the intersection, prompting the safety gates to come down and the railroad’s red lights to activate. In an attempt to exit off the railroad tracks, Short errantly made a left turn onto the southbound tracks facing the southbound train. The train hit Short’s Sentra head on just north of the tracks and eventually came to rest about 1500 feet south of the intersection. Short, who planned to spend a few months in Broward County for the winter, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later by Delray Beach Fire Rescue. If anyone witnessed or has any additional information about this crash, please contact THI investigator Dan Cramer at (561) 243-7800.
