The Margate City Police Department would like to congratulate Sgt Mark Ciambrone on the completion of his 30 year career with MCPD. This morning he signed off for the final time. His family joined him at the Department and he was given one more salute by department members as he left.

If you have been around Margate for any length of time, odds are Sgt Ciambrone has helped you out in some way. He was a constant presence around town and has served as a mentor to officers and citizens alike.

His responsibilities within the department over the years were numerous. It’s safe to say that Sgt Ciambrone has just about done it all! He also worked for many years as a D.A.R.E. officer and always paid special attention to the safety of juveniles and the goings on at the schools in town.

We wish him well as his long and distinguished career with MCPD comes to a close!

Congratulations Sergeant Ciambrone!

On Saturday August 18th at approximately 11:03pm the Margate City Police Department received an anonymous report of suspicious activity at the Margate Post Office. The caller reporting the incident stated he witnessed a male place something into the mail box outside the office but while doing so he observed the male to be, what he described as, “praying” over the mailbox. A description of the male was provided to the police and Officers responded and began a search for him; however, the suspect was not located.

The Stockton Police Department was contacted and a K-9 Officer was requested to assist. Officer Tracy Stuart and her K-9 partner responded but the K-9 did not alert on the mailbox indicating no presence of an explosive device. A representative from the post office was contacted who assisted Officers in gaining entrance to the mailbox. Officers searched through the contents of the mailbox and did not locate any suspicious packages inside.

On Sunday, August 19th, at approximately 6:38pm, the Margate City Police Department received a 911 call from a resident of Gladstone Avenue reporting a burglary in progress to her home. The resident was able to describe the suspect to a police dispatcher and stated the suspect ran out of the home and fled on foot. When Officers arrived in the area to begin a search, a second 911 call was received reporting a male matching the description of the suspect from the first incident had entered an open garage of a home on Fulton Avenue and attempted to steal a bicycle. The suspect was confronted by the homeowner who then relinquished the bike and again fled on foot. Minutes later, A bicycle Officer on Colmar Circle was flagged down by a third resident who reported the same suspect was on the front porch of their home attempting to break in. The resident told the Officer she then saw the suspect trying to break into her vehicle parked outside. When the resident activated the panic alarm to her car, the suspect again fled on foot.

Margate Police Officers then set up a perimeter where they believed the suspect may be hiding. The Atlantic City Police Department was contacted for assistance and a K-9 Officer was requested to respond to conduct a search for the suspect. Officer Pali and his K-9 partner “Roxy” along with Sergeant Adams of the ACPD responded to assist. The male suspect was located shortly after hiding in some bushes nearby and he was taken into custody without resistance.

Brahin Shariff Jones, 30, of Atlantic City was arrested and charged with multiple counts of burglary and theft. During a search of the area the following morning, Officers were able to locate a backpack Jones was carrying. Inside the bag Officers discovered proceeds from the initial burglary along with CDS, specifically heroin, and burglary tools. Jones has been lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility and further charges are pending.
