On April 12th, 2018 around 12:45am, Rockford Police Officers were dispatched to a location in the area of Buckbee Street and Garden Court in reference to a bomb threat. Upon arrival, officers found no evidence of a bomb. It was later determined that the call was a hoax.

Officers from the Rockford Police Housing Authority Unit conducted a follow-up investigation. During the investigation 25-year-old Rockford resident, Martica Mineau, was developed as a suspect.

As a result of the investigation, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office was contacted. They authorized charges of Disorderly Conduct against Mineau. On April 13th, 2018, a warrant was issued for Mineau. Bond was set at $2,000.

On April 17th, 2018 at about 5:00pm, Rockford Police Housing Authority officers located Mineau in the 1400 block of Spring Court. She was taken into custody without incident. She was transported to the Winnebago County Jail and lodged. A photo is attached.

This is an on-going investigation. No further information is available at this time.

The charges against Mineau are merely accusations. She is considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

On April 17th, 2018 at about 7:15pm, Rockford Police SCOPE officers were in the area of Lyle Street and Sawyer Road when they observed a suspicious male. As officers attempted to make contact with the male, he immediately attempted to flee on foot. After a brief foot chase, he was apprehended in the 400 block of Sawyer Road. He was identified as 21-year-old Rockford resident, Devin Griffith. Griffith was found to be in possession of a handgun and a quantity of ammunition. Officers also learned that Griffith was on parole. He was taken into custody.

The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office was contacted. They authorized the following charges against Griffith:

Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
Unlawful Use of Weapon by a Felon
No FOID card
Resisting

Bond: none

Griffith was transported to the Winnebago County Jail and lodged. A photo is attached. This is an on-going investigation. No further information is available at this time.

On April 16th, 2018 at about 9pm, Rockford Police Officers located twenty- six-year-old Jacob Vereecken in the 4800 block of East State Street. Vereecken was wanted on a parole violation warrant. He was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Winnebago County Jail and lodged. No bond was set. Attached is an updated photo.

The Rockford Police Department will again host “Bingo with Seniors” on Friday, April 20, 2018, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the District 1 Police Station, 1045 West State Street.

The goal is to promote community involvement among older adults and provide them with safety information to avoid becoming the victim of a crime. Police officers will provide crime prevention presentations during these events and the topic for this event will be “Home Security Tips.”

This is a free event with no cash prizes awarded; however, thanks to many generous donations from local businesses and organizations, various prizes ranging in value from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars will be awarded. These events will be limited to the first 80 participants. Doors will open at 9:15 a.m.
