Two Arrested on Robbery Charges

Two people are in custody on several preliminary charges including Robbery and Criminal Confinement after a vehicle they were traveling in was stopped by officers Thursday night. The traffic stop was a result of an investigation that began earlier on Thursday where a victim was dragged inside a Columbus home and was beaten and robbed.

Shortly before 10:00 p.m., CPD officers observed a vehicle associated with the robbery traveling on Marr Road. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle near 30th Street and Marr Road, one of the vehicle’s doors opened and a suspect fled from the vehicle. The remaining occupants inside the vehicle were taken into custody.

Law enforcement canines from the Columbus Police Department and Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department checked the area for the suspect that fled on foot, however, he was not located.
The two suspects in the vehicle who were identified as Perry K. Davis, 22, of Columbus and Willowdale A. Bennett, 38, of Columbus were placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

Robbery
Criminal Confinement
Battery with Bodily Injury
Theft

Davis and Bennett remained incarcerated on a 48 hour hold while investigation in this case continues.

Three Arrested on Drug Charges After Traffic Stop

Three people are in custody on drug charges after the vehicle they were traveling in was stopped for having a false license plate. On Tuesday evening at approximately 7:50 p.m., Columbus police officers observed the violation and stopped the vehicle near 7th Street and Pleasant Grove. A police canine later alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle.
Officers confirmed a warrant for Zachariah B. Gruber, 35, of Greenwood who was passenger in the vehicle and he taken into custody. While searching Gruber, the officers allegedly located a syringe, heroin and drug paraphernalia.

An arrest warrant was also confirmed for the vehicle’s second passenger, Michael R. Hankins, 27, of Columbus. While searching Hankins, the officers located a digital scale with methamphetamine residue.

Officers allegedly located marijuana in a purse that belonged to Breanna D. Meier, 25, of Columbus who was also a passenger in the vehicle. Meier was placed under arrest and after being transported to the jail, the corrections staff located heroin and pills that she had attempted to conceal in her clothing.

Gruber, Hankins, and Meier were remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on the preliminary charges listed below:

Breanna Meier: Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Heroin, Possession of a Legend Drug, Trafficking with an Inmate

Michael Hankins: Bartholomew County Warrant, Possession of Methamphetamine

Zachariah Gruber: Bartholomew County Warrant, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Legend Drug Injection Device, Possession of Heroin

CPD K-9 Apprehends Suspect

A local man with multiple warrants was apprehended by a CPD canine after he fled from officers on a bicycle Tuesday afternoon. At approximately 5:25 p.m., Columbus police officers observed Sage Banks, 21, of Columbus in the 2800 block of 22nd Street. The officers confirmed three local warrants for Banks who fled on his bicycle a short time later. The officers pursued Banks through a nearby apartment complex and later into the parking lot at Columbus Regional Hospital. During the pursuit, a police canine was deployed who apprehended Banks a short time later. Banks was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical clearance and later remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
