Gas Station Safety:

Be aware of your surrounding.
Don’t leave your car door unlocked while pumping gas or while going into the gas station.
Most offenders look for vulnerable individuals who leave their car doors unlocked to either steal cars, purses, cell phones, and any other valuable items in the car.
Note: If you have children in the car crack the windows and lock the doors while pumping gas.

BEWARE:

A Supsect is calling individuals place of employment, once on the phone the suspect tells you that you missed jury duty in either Johnson County Court or Greenwood City Court. The suspect then tells you that you need to come to the police department to pay your fine. The suspect may then hang up the phone and call you back within a few minutes while you are on your way to the police department. The suspect will tell you to just stop and buy a green dot card or apple card and then read off the number on the back and at that moment the scam artist has your money.

At no point, would the Greenwood Police Department, Johnson County Sheriffs, or either Court’s call to ask you to pay a fine over the phone for missing jury duty.

Media Release:

On January 7, Greenwood Police responded to the Barton Farms and Greenwood Pines subdivisions on vandalism reports. In the 3000 block of Lodgepole Drive a swastika had been painted on the garage door of a residence. In the 1800 block of Blue Lake Drive the suspects painted the words neo-Nazi on the trunk of that residents car. In the 1800 block of Harvest Meadow Drive, it is believed the same suspects spray-painted male genitalia on the side of a residents work van. Surveillance video from a nearby residence showed that at approximately 4am on January 7, a dark colored (possibly Chevy Cruz) pulled up in front of one of the victim’s residences. Three suspects were then observed exiting the car and approaching the residence. Several minutes later, the suspects returned to the car and left. Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to contact the Greenwood Police Department at 317-865-0300.
