The Davenport Police Department has an authorized strength of 163 Police Officers and 28 civilian employees. The Department handles over 140,000 calls for service annually and has an advanced computer dispatch system, integrated in-car computers and an enhanced 911 service, supported by an outstanding, professional and dedicated group of men and women.

The Davenport Police Department is also very proud to state that the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) awarded the Davenport Police Department accreditation status in July, 2003 and two subsequent reaccreditations in 2006 and 2010. The national accreditation process included an examination of all aspects of the Department’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services.

ATF and Davenport Police announce reward in gun store burglary

Davenport, Ia.—The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Davenport Police Department today announced a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the theft of firearms from Davenport Guns, a federally licensed firearms dealer.

ATF and Davenport Police Department are offering up to $2,500 for information in the case.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 11, unknown suspects broke into Davenport Guns, 3701 Mississippi Avenue, stealing several firearms from the premises. The Davenport Police Department responded to the scene and found that the suspects had made entry through a door to the business and taken numerous firearms before fleeing.

65th and Brady Accident

On Thursday 9/13/18, at approximately 2230 hours, Davenport Police, Davenport Fire, and Medic EMS responded to a crash that involved a single vehicle and two pedestrians near the intersection of 65th and Brady Streets. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the involved vehicle and the two pedestrians in the north bound lanes of Brady Street south of 65th Street. The two pedestrians were pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the pedestrians are not being released until family notifications are made. The driver of the vehicle was interviewed at the scene.

The investigation is being conducted by the Davenport Police Department, Traffic Safety Unit. Further information will be released when available.

On Thursday 09/13/2018 at 12:15 PM Davenport Police responded to east bound I-80 at mile marker 294 for an Injury accident involving a pedestrian. Preliminary investigation revealed that a subject exited a vehicle that was parked on the south side of the roadway and was struck by a passing semi-truck.

The subject was transported to Genesis Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The pedestrian was identified as a 60 year old male from Davenport. No other vehicles were involved and I-80 is open to normal traffic. The Davenport Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the incident. No further information is available at this time.
