The Rockville City Police Department’s spring National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be held this Saturday, April 28, 2018. This is a safe, free and anonymous way to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs.

Leftover, unused, unwanted and expired prescription drugs will be accepted from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Rockville City Police Station parking lot at 2 West Montgomery Ave. To make it quick and convenient, officers will be outside with easy drive-up and drop-off access, so there is no need to leave your vehicle.

Illicit drugs, liquids, needles, sharps or syringes cannot be accepted, only pills or patches. The DEA will destroy medications.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a convenient and responsible means of disposal, keeping prescription drugs from potentially polluting our drinking water while educating the public about the potential for abuse or theft of these medications.

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and the Rockville City Police Department wishes to extend our thanks and appreciation to our Police Communication Operators (PCO) who are an essential link between our law enforcement professionals and the citizens of Rockville. Our PCO’s are a crucial component of Rockville’s public safety service, and like police officers, are committed to ensuring the safety and protection of homes, businesses and the citizens in our community. We thank them today and everyday for the work they do to assist in the protection and safety of our communities.

Important Notice for Tomorrow – The City of Rockville is one of 20 metropolitan Washington area jurisdictions that will be involved in a test of Wireless Emergency Alerts tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 5.

Cell phones or mobile devices located in the geo-targeted location will receive a text message that reads: “A test of the Montgomery County Wireless Emergency Alerts System. No action required.” The alert triggers a loud noise while displaying the text message on cell phones and mobile devices. Individuals do not sign up to receive a WEA alert. Because testing will be done simultaneously throughout the area, you might receive messages from multiple jurisdictions.

Additional jurisdictions participating in the WEA test are: the City of Alexandria, Virginia; City of Bowie; City of College Park; City of Fairfax, Virginia; City of Falls Church, Virginia; City of Gaithersburg; City of Greenbelt; City of Takoma Park; City of Manassas, Virginia; City of Manassas Park, Virginia; District of Columbia; Arlington County, Virginia; Charles County; Fairfax County, Virginia; Frederick County; Loudoun County, Virginia; Montgomery County; Prince George’s County; and Prince William County, Virginia.
