NEWS RELEASE – JANUARY 3, 2018

At 5:58 PM on 12/30/17, Midland County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a delayed situation, where a 9 year old female was approached by subjects in the 200 block of West Fike Road in Edenville Township.

Deputies arrived on scene and made contact with the child and her 32 year old mother. The child had been at a friend’s residence, which is a short distance from her home. She left to walk home around 4:45 PM. The child advised that an older model black GMC or Ford panel van with an “I heart candy” bumper sticker, pulled into the driveway. An unknown male subject opened the door and asked her if she wanted a ride and offered her candy. The child stated that the subject was wearing all black and had a ski mask on. According to the child there was a second unknown person in the van also wearing a ski mask.

The child ran back to her friend’s home and told her friend’s parents.

Deputies have checked the area, increased patrol and spoken with area residents, but the suspicious vehicle has not been located.

Anyone with information is requested to contact the Midland County Sheriff’s Office Shift Supervisor at 989-839-4622.
