Due to the region wide explosion, the Troy Police Dept briefly experienced an overage in 911 calls that caused a delay in answering. We are now appear to be back and operational for all call types.

The Troy Police Department has received recent inquiries regarding coyotes in Troy. The Police Department offers the following information in response:

Landowners wishing to remove coyotes from their property may obtain services from any licensed nuisance animal control company. A list of licensed companies can be found at www.michigan.gov/wildlife. The typical cost associated with this service ranges from $300 to $750.

Coyotes are generally scared of humans and larger pets. In some cases, however, coyotes will attack smaller dogs or cats. Pet owners should keep close watch on their pets and walk their dogs on leashes. Pet food should be kept indoors. Homeowners should be aware that coyotes can make their way into fenced yards.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is the entity that oversees wildlife, and the Police Department has previously consulted the DNR regarding coyotes in Troy. The DNR advises that any attempt at mass removal of coyotes would result in repopulation in a short period.

Advice on how to limit to conflict with coyotes and eliminate food sources on your property is provided by the DNR here: https://tinyurl.com/y9tw7zcs
