Our 2017 numbers are in, and we’re proud to announce 2017 had the 3rd lowest crime rate ever!

While certain cases have grabbed headlines, overall numbers are low. Despite being the largest city in Scott county, we traditionally have not had the highest crime rate in the county. Shakopee remains an overall safe community. If you have questions relating to public safety we’d love to hear from you.

FUN FACT: We are the only department in MN certified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children‘s Readiness Project.

We’re in training today, working on a hypothetical child abduction situation. We’re planning the steps of our reaction and making sure we have all the resources we’d need in the event of a child abduction. Our goal is to be proactive, not reactive. We want to keep everyone safe!

On New Years Eve, Shakopee Taxi and LaTour Transportation gave almost 40 free rides home to over 100 people! We want to thank those of you who took advantage of this opportunity and also those who helped spread the word.

St. Patrick’s Day is the next time we will be offering free rides home. Until then, make sure you line up a sober ride; don’t drink and drive!
