On 12-27-2017 Missoula County Sheriff Sergeant Schmill was involved in a motor vehicle accident at mile marker 136 westbound on I-90. Sergeant Schmill was stationary on the shoulder of the interstate with his emergency lights activated, preparing to assist in an unrelated accident when he was rear-ended by a passenger car. Both Sgt. Schmill and the driver, the sole occupant of the other car, were transported to St. Patrick Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Road conditions and visibility were extremely poor. The crash is being investigated by the Montana Highway Patrol.

If you have to drive in these conditions please slow down. If you see emergency lights illuminated slow down and proceed with caution, always buckle up and never drive impaired.
