We’re over the moon excited about the newest members of the #CPD family. The swearing-in ceremony was fun but those badges can be hard to pin on the uniform.

Meet Matthew and Joseph Santeramo from Wallington, New Jersey (in between Hackensack and Nutley).

Matthew has been with CPD for several months assigned to Metro Region, while Joseph was sworn in as a law enforcement officer today.

While at the SC Criminal Justice Academy, Joseph’s wife gave birth to their first child, a son. Precious J.J. is 5 weeks old.

When the brothers were little, they would play ‘cops and robbers,” a game which inspired them to pursue their law enforcement careers.

We’re still trying to confirm, but by all accounts, the Santeramo’s could very well be the first twins in CPD’s history.

If you look at the twins with their CPD hats on, it may be more difficult to tell them apart.

We shouldn’t worry since they have to wear name tags!

And to add to the family, their brother-in-law wants to join the CPD and is currently studying at the SC Criminal Justice Academy.

Welcome Matt and Joe or Joe and Matt…. please, no switcheroo games while on duty.

Congratulations are in order for the four new Columbia Police officers who officially transitioned from civilians to public servants today.

Chief Holbrook said, ” You’re part of the family now. We expect a lot out of you. We’ll always have your back.”

The four men and 1 woman graduated this morning from the SC Criminal Justice Academy (CJA) and took the oath of office at the City of Columbia courthouse. Relatives and friends were able to assist in the auspicious ceremony by holding the police officer Bible and pinning on badges.

Chief adds, ” Our number one rule is integrity. It’s not always about putting people in jail. It’s about helping people. We’re proud of you. I’m encouraged about the future ahead of you. it’s my honor to serve you.”

Join us in welcoming our new family members to the Columbia Police Department.
