@Collumpp_18 This isn’t addressed in the law (Section 545.404 -Texas Transportation Code) but the idea is simply to prevent vehicle thefts. While we haven’t issued a citation for this years – in the past 3 months, 6 cars were stolen in Town, all of which were unlocked and had keys in them.

Did you know it’s against state law to leave an unlocked vehicle running, unattended, with the keys in the ignition? Remote start is OK as long as it requires the key to be placed in the ignition or physically present in the vehicle before operation can occur. https://t.co/ivJfXPhaNZ

On a chilly day like today, giving your vehicle a chance to warm up before hopping in sounds pretty appealing – just be sure you’re abiding by state law when doing this. It is against the law to leave an unlocked vehicle running, unattended, with the keys in the ignition. If your vehicle has remote start capabilities, which requires the key to be placed in the ignition or physically present in the vehicle before operation can occur – you’re not in violation of state law. Failure to abide can result in vehicle theft, theft of property inside the vehicle, and a fine.

Be smart, keep your property safe, and stay warm!

Welcome to Flower Mound, Officers Jordan Boehm and Rodney Adame! Both officers were sworn-in yesterday during a special ceremony at the Police Department. Officer Adame is no stranger to Flower Mound, previously serving as an officer with the FMPD for 14 years before a brief move to the Houston area. Officer Boehm officially graduated from the Police Academy last night and is new to the department.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our 2017 Santa Cops program another huge success. It was because of your generous donations that FMPD was able to help 85 families, with 250 children. Officers and volunteers distributed approximately 1,700 toys and gift cards prior to the holidays – with each child received 4 to 5 gifts.

Thank you again to all who helped make the holidays a bit brighter for a Flower Mound family in need!
