The Junior Police Academy (JPA) is a camp designed to strengthen the connection between law enforcement and local youth, giving them a chance to see what it’s like to become a cadet police officer over their summer vacation.

This FREE camp is modeled after the police academy that adults attend to become sworn peace officers. Our academy is geared to accommodate Georgetown youth, ages 8 to 14 years old. Junior Cadets will be introduced to physical training such as: completing an obstacle course, marching, and rappelling. Cadets also get a first-hand look inside equipment such as a fire truck, patrol and SWAT vehicles, and a police helicopter. Cadets will also participate in hand-cuffing and self-defense tactics. At the end of the academy, students will participate in a graduation ceremony that acknowledges their endurance and hard work.

Camp Dates:
June 11-14 (ages 8-10)
June 18-21 (ages 11-12)
July 9-12 (ages 13-14)
July 16-19 (ages 8-10)
July 23-26 (ages 11-12)

The camp is conducted from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Georgetown Public Safety Operations & Training Facility, located at 3500 DB Wood Rd., Georgetown, Texas 78628.

Please complete the application, medical information sheet, parental release, and release of liability for EACH child attending. Forms must be filled out in their entirety. You can find the form here:

Application Deadline: Friday, April 27, 2018 by 5:00pm. There are only 25 slots available for each camp, so don’t delay in turning in your application. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications need to be hand delivered to the Reception Desk at 3500 DB Wood Road, Georgetown, TX 78628. The applications can also be mailed, but please note that using this method of delivery could cause a delay in receipt and your child may not be accepted.

NOTE: Priority will be given to City of Georgetown residents. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting Junior Deputy Academies during the summer to accommodate Wilco residents.

We have received some inquiries about the explosive package incidents in Austin from concerned citizens. At this time, we do NOT have any information from Austin PD or any federal authorities as they are very early on in their investigations.

At this time, there have been no incidents in Georgetown and we have no indication of any events occurring here.

However, out of an abundance of caution and given the nature of these incidents we are encouraging everyone to be vigilant. If you receive a package that you are not expecting or that package seems suspicious, do not open it! Contact law enforcement.

We will provide updates if more information is received.

We have to give a shout out to one of our amazing Georgetown 9-1-1 Operators, Jennifer. She got to meet the man she helped save on February 10, 2018. Jennifer conducted an initial medical assessment & determined CPR was needed. She kept family members focused and gave them clear instructions on how to perform CPR. Jennifer counted with the caller to keep the compressions in time until EMS arrived. Jerry is now at home recovering. Great job, Jennifer!

Downtown parking ambassadors to start

Two downtown parking ambassadors will start working later this month in the downtown parking zone around the Williamson County Courthouse Square. The primary roles for the part-time City of Georgetown employees will be to provide information to residents and visitors on the Square and enforce the three-hour parking ordinance. The downtown parking ambassadors are expected to start by mid-March.

The downtown parking ambassadors will help to direct visitors to free parking lots in the downtown and also provide directions to restaurants, shops, and government offices. Free parking lots are located at 10th and Main streets, Sixth and Main streets, Seventh and Rock streets, Austin Avenue and Fifth Street, Martin Luther King and Eighth streets, and Martin Luther King and Seventh streets. There is a public four-story parking garage at Fourth and Rock streets. The free parking lots and garage do not have a three-hour limit.

The downtown parking ordinance limits on-street parking in the downtown parking zone (see map) to three hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday. The three-hour limit does not apply on Saturday or Sunday. A violation of the ordinance can result in a warning followed by a fine of $20 for a second offense, $50 for the third offense, and $100 for a fourth or subsequent offense.

The goal of the three-hour limit for on-street spaces in the downtown zone is to provide for the turnover of these spaces and increase the periodic availability of spaces in the zone throughout the day. The three-hour limit does not apply to disabled parking spaces in the zone. Residents who live in the downtown zone may apply for a residential parking zone permit.
