Fatal Traffic Accident at 400 S. and 100 W. Logan Utah April 16, 2018

The traffic accident which occurred on Monday evening at approximately 9:00 pm in Logan Utah resulted in the death of a 23 year old Cache valley man and the hospitalization of his mother and sister. They were in a small Toyota SUV at 400 South and 100 West in Logan attempting to go East through the intersection. A 2006 Chevrolet truck was southbound on 100 West and struck the vehicle in the intersection. This collision caused the Toyota to spin multiple times and collide with a parked vehicle. The male occupant was ejected from the Toyota and died on scene. As officers arrived witnesses were assisting the driver of the truck identified as Bradley Matthew Thompkins, a 25 year male. Witnesses also stated two other occupants of the truck ran from the scene. Officers located 26 year old Jerry Lee Gooding hiding a block away from the scene. He was combative and uncooperative with officers. The second runner was located at his residence and was identified as a 17 year old juvenile.
Bradley Thompkins and Jerry Gooding were also treated medically for their injuries and released pending the investigation.
Accident re-constructionists investigated the scene. They found the 1995 Chevrolet truck to be travelling at a high rate of speed in a 25 MPH zone in a residential area. Cameras from the Logan Recreation Center captured images of the truck travelling south on 100 West in the area of 200 South moments before the collision at 400 South. Bradley Thompkins, Jerry Gooding and the 17 year old juvenile were found to have been consuming alcohol during the evening before the crash.
Officers arrested Bradley Thompkins and booked him into the Cache County Jail on the following charges: Criminal Automobile Homicide (2F), 3 counts of DUI with serious injury (3F), Obstruction of Justice (3F), Dui with a minor (AM), Driving on revocation/suspension out of state license (BM)
Charges for Jerry Gooding and the 17 year old male are pending at this time.
The names of the victims in this crash are not being released at this time due to constraints on the family in reaching all of their family members and giving notification.
