City of Lynchburg #PressRelease CITY OF LYNCHBURG PREPARING FOR WINTER WEATHER

The City of Lynchburg is anticipating snow beginning late tonight, Tuesday, January 16 and continuing through the morning of Wednesday, January 17 with up to three inches of snow accumulating on the streets. The Public Works Department is prepared for this event and will have crews working with spreader and plow operations throughout the night as needed.

Residents are reminded that snow removal on primary and secondary roads will be the priority; residential streets will only be addressed after primary and secondary roads are cleared. Additionally, residential streets will only be plowed if more than two inches of snow accumulate on area roadways.

Because of low temperatures predicted, there is the expectation that snow will freeze to the pavement in some locations and will remain on streets even after plowing and salt applications. The public is encouraged to avoid travel if at all possible and use extreme caution if travel does become necessary.

Currently, Wednesday’s trash collection will follow the normal schedule. Should there be a change in this schedule, the City will issue an update accordingly.
