FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CITY OF LYNCHBURG STORM UPDATES – STREET OPENINGS AND CLOSINGS

City of Lynchburg and AEP crews continue to work to clear streets and debris from the recent storms, and motorists are asked to use caution while driving through the work zones. Below is a status report regarding street openings and closings.

The following streets remain closed:
• Link Road
• Bon Air Circle
• VES Road (between VES School and Hydro)

The following streets are partially open (narrow but accessible for one vehicle at a time):

#CrimeStoppers On April 17, 2018 at 3:45 pm, officers responded to the 3200 block of Forest Brook Rd for a shots fired call.

Upon arrival, officers found a juvenile male with apparent gunshot wounds. Lynchburg Fire Department responded to assist and transported the juvenile to Lynchburg General Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Patrol officers on scene were able to locate the suspect and take him into custody.
LPD Criminal Investigations and Forensics Units responded to assist.

After a thorough investigation it has been determined this was an isolated incident and there is no additional risk to the residents of Lynchburg.

Requandre Jerome Murrell, 20-year-old resident of Lynchburg was arrested and charged with Discharge a firearm within the City of Lynchburg, 27-67 – Lynchburg City Code and Reckless handling of a firearm, 18.2-56.1 – Code of Virginia. Murrell is being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond.

The juvenile victim is in stable condition.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CITY OF LYNCHBURG STORM UPDATES AND COMMUNITY CLEANUP EVENT REMINDER

Crews from the City of Lynchburg’s Public Works Department continue to work to remove downed trees and debris as a result from the storm that occurred on Sunday, April 15. Motorists should still exercise caution and be reminded that if traffic lights are out or stop signs are missing, intersections are to be considered a four-way stop. They are also asked to not go around barricades.

The following streets are now open:

 Peakland Place
 John Scott Drive
 Rivermont Avenue at VES Road
 Rivermont Avenue at Link Road
 Timberlake Road
 Lakeside Drive
 Linkhorne Drive
 Oak Lane
 Peakland Place
 Williams Road

The following streets remain closed:

 Old Graves Mill Road
 Old Trents Ferry Road
 Bonaire Road
 Selene Street

Due to the large amount of debris, limbs, brush, etc., following the tornado, the Public Works Department is asking residents to help with the cleanup by:

 Keeping brush and limbs cut to a length of six to eight feet;
 Knocking dirt and loose debris from vegetation before bringing it to the street;
 Keeping any building debris separated from brush and limbs;
 Not blocking roads with brush and limbs or debris.

Patience is appreciated as cleanup efforts continue and the department works to maintain other services as well. Throughout the cleanup efforts, residents have stepped forward to volunteer their services to assist their neighbors. Their willingness to help is much appreciated.

“LOVE WHERE YOU LIVE!” COMMUNITY CLEANUP EVENT – REMINDER

On Saturday, April 21, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Lynchburg residents are encouraged to participate in the “Love Where You Live!” Community Cleanup.

“Love Where You Live,” formally known as “March on Litter,” gives residents the opportunity to show pride in their neighborhoods and their city. Residents will have several options from which to choose to participate.

To participate in the city-wide clean, residents can come to the Public Works Complex located at 1700 Memorial Avenue for an assigned location, safety vests, litter grabbers, gloves and orange bags. Residents may also drop off old tires at this location (no more than ten tires per resident).

To participate in the neighborhood cleanup, residents may pick up equipment at one of the participating community centers. These locations will also have resource tables, exhibits, etc.

Those who would like to volunteer for storm related debris removal is encouraged to so.

Want to organize a cleanup in your own neighborhood? Drop by 1700 Memorial Avenue on April 21, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and pick up the supplies. Let Public Works know the neighborhood, and they will come by after the cleanup to collect the filled bags.

#CrimeStoppers The Lynchburg Police Department is seeking information in reference to a larceny that occurred on March 20, 2018.

Loss prevention at Lowes on Timberlake Rd contacted LPD in reference to a larceny from their store.

A white male, wearing a camouflage jacket, jeans and boots, entered the Timberlake Rd. Lowes and stole several tools. The male then left the store in a dark colored sedan bearing VA/ VCS-8566. The license plate provided is reported as stolen from the Rivermont Ave area in Lynchburg (see attached photos). The individual reportedly conducted similar activity at Lowes in Madison Heights
