On 1/20/18 at approximately 1915 hours (7:15pm), Officers were dispatched to the CVS located at 117 SW 160th St for a shop lift that had gone bad. The reporting party called 911 to report that several subjects stole a large quantity of liquor and ran out of the store.

Officers arrived quickly to the scene and within minutes of checking the area Officers had 5 subjects detained with over 10 bottles of liquor recovered. The bottles of liquor were returned to CVS without incident! – Case# C18003230

A quick weekend update:

On 1/7/2018 at approximately 4:45 pm Burien Police Officers located the vehicle that was believed to be involved in an armed robbery as well as a drive by shooting in the City of Burien on 1/6/2018.

Burien Police Officers found the vehicle in the White Center area just south of SW 100th and 18th Ave SW. The vehicle was occupied by 3 males.

Inside the vehicle there were two firearms as well as the other items recovered from the robbery. All 3 males were booked into jail. The vehicle, as well as the firearms were placed into evidence.

The Burien Police Department wants to congratulate the 8 Burien Explorers who completed the 2017 Washington Law Enforcement Explorer Winter Academy in Yakima. Robert Turner, Ashleigh Bell, Delia Bautista, Mason Lemus, Krizma Shelton, Sheila Richardson, Josie Palmer and Colin Voynick endured six days of physical training, firearms training, basic and advance patrol procedures and criminal law. Each day they were tested and took part in numerous graded mock scenes.

Of the nearly 200 explorers that participated in the academy, Colin Voynick took 1st place in physical fitness in the Basic Academy, Robert Turner took 2nd place in overall academics in the Advanced Academy and Josie Palmer lead her platoon to win 12 awards ribbons, the most a platoon has ever won in a single academy.

We thank each and every Explorer for all their hard work and dedication throughout the year!

You have made us proud!

What is your favorite part about working for the City of Burien?
All the new and interesting people I get to meet daily.

Where is your favorite place to eat in the City of Burien?
Verona’s for sit down meal, Dino’s Gyros for quick bite

What is your favorite NFL Team or Sport?
I don’t watch much of the NFL, I mostly watch College Football. I am from College Station Texas and root for The A&M Aggies…Always. Other games I root for the underdog.

What do you love about your job?
The fast paced environment, constantly being busy and figuring out ways to help people in crisis.

What do you do when you are not at work?
Run, Run and Run some more. It is not only good for my health, but it is relaxing and teaches my kids healthy habits.

On 12-30-2017 Officers were dispatched to Highline High School to a report of a male brandishing and threatening passerby’s with a knife. Witness’s stated the male continued to wave the knife in the air and act erratically.

Officers quickly arrived on scene and attempted to stop the male from going into oncoming traffic and to drop the knife. Officers surrounded and tried to speak with the male to understand what was going on. The male refused to speak with the officers and yelled at them.

More officers arrived on scene as the male continued to try the leave the scene and walk towards Des Moines Memorial Drive. Pepper Sprayed was used by officers, but took no affect.

After several rounds of Pepper Spray, Officers were eventually able to subdue the man. The 10 inch kitchen knife was secured. The male was initially transported to hospital.

No officers were injured and the male received treatment for pepper spray. (case# C17063259).
