Waukesha Police and Fire units quickly arrived on scene and located a single vehicle crash occupied by two occupants The passenger was transported to Froedtert Hospital with life threatening injuries. Last night Specialist Chelsea Coenen and Officer Ben Stern received the Citation of Valor award at the Common Council meeting. On June 18, 2017 they were part of an arrest team at a man with a gun call. The man was armed and intoxicated. They were part of the arrest team, during which they verbally challenged the subject on numerous occasions for over an hour, ordering him to put the gun down. The male refused to drop the gun and continued to advance on their position. Specialist Coenen and Officer Stern were forced to shoot the male in defense of themselves, other officers, and the citizens in the neighborhood.

The actions of Specialist Coenen and Officer Stern were truly commendable during the tense, uncertain, and rapidly evolving situation. Both officers exemplified the Department’s priorities of Safey, Communication, Teamwork and Accountability. Both officers acted decisively and with great courage and valor in the face of the deadly force threat. They work and live by our mission statement, A Pledge to Serve with Integrity, Honor and Courage!

Margaret wanted to donate 50 hand knit scarfs that she made for the homeless. She does not drive and needed assistance in getting them to the homeless. Officers responded; the scarfs were collected and taken to the overflow shelter. They were very appreciative. Thank You Margaret!
